Welcome to Boujdour, Western Sahara.
Cap 8 is located in the Boujdour Province, about 127 kilometers south of town. It takes about an hour and a half to drive from Boujdour to Cap 8. For years, this powerful, world-class wave was a closely guarded secret. Recently, Cap 8 has finally been opened for the world to enjoy. It is perfect for experienced surfers, boogie boarders, kite surfers, wind surfers, and foil surfing. In town, we have a nice mellow point break that is also uncrowded, making it ideal for longboarding, shortboarding, beginners, and our surf school.
Right now, crowds are still not an issue at either spot. However, a surf camp is already in the works and word is spreading fast through the surfing community. If you want to experience Cap 8 at its purest, this year is the time to come. Bookings are limited and filling quickly, so it's important to get in touch soon to lock in your dates.
This operation is run by the Boujdour Surfing Association. Every one of us was born and raised right here. Our mission is to connect local youth with visiting surfers, create real cultural exchange, and bring valuable income into the community.
What makes Boujdour special is that it's still a relatively unknown surf destination. Unlike many other places in Morocco, you won't find crowded lineups or hundreds of beginners in the water. Here you get a truly unique, peaceful surf experience with very few people around.
Boujdour started as a small fishing village built around its historic lighthouse. Since 1976, it has grown into the capital of the province, supported by a new port and major development programs. The iconic lighthouse, built in the 1950s, stands 54 meters tall with 264 spiral steps — climb to the top for breathtaking views where the Sahara Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean.
All-Inclusive Daily Package: 950 dirhams per person per night
Includes comfortable lodging, three full meals a day, and a local guide. Note that if you don't have your own 4x4 vehicle, hiring one in Boujdour is required for trips to Cap 8 and is not included in the package. Beginners surfing the mellow wave right in town do not need a car.
If there are multiple days of good waves, we can arrange for you to stay at the hot springs near Cap 8 instead of driving back and forth from Boujdour every day.
Safety First
Cap 8 sits in a remote, barren stretch of the Sahara with absolutely no infrastructure, food, or lodging. The Moroccan government forbids camping on the beach at Cap 8. The desert wind can quickly cover the road with sand, so we keep a tractor on call at all times. An emergency first responder is also available 24/7. In the event of a worst case scenario, helicopter evacuation can be arranged.
For these reasons, we strongly recommend going with an experienced local guide from Boujdour. Not only is it much safer, it also shows respect to the local surfing community.
Our Surf School
If you're a beginner surfer, Boujdour is a great place to learn how to surf. Our experienced local surf instructors also serve as your surf guide. Lessons take place at our mellow sand bottom point break, which is perfectly suited for learning. Getting up on your first day is almost guaranteed. Going to Cap 8 to watch professional surfers ride one of the best waves in Morocco can be arranged for photography, filming, or just to experience the majesty and solitude of the Cap 8 region.
Adventure Awaits
There are still undiscovered and unpublicized surf spots both north and south of Boujdour. We can organize adventure surfing excursions to explore these hidden gems. If you're coming up from Dakhla for a swell, it is advised to contact us so we can meet you at Cap 8 with food and drinks, guide you into the waves if need be, and take you to safe camping areas near the spot so you can surf the next day, because it's a long drive up from Dakhla. Pickup and drop-off from Dakhla can also be arranged.
Beyond Surfing
Enjoy camel rides in the Sahara, rent ATVs and cruise around the desert, climb the historic lighthouse, walk along the scenic corniche at sunset, visit the bustling fishing port, explore the central souk, and try sandboarding on the dunes. In Boujdour, where the endless sands of the Sahara dramatically meet the wild Atlantic Ocean, you'll witness one of nature's most breathtaking and powerful intersections.
